Golden Baked Chinese Cabbage – A Light yet Satisfying Oven Dish with Oats

For those who crave a warm, nourishing meal that is creamy yet not too heavy.

Sometimes, great food doesn’t require much—just a few simple ingredients, a little patience, and an oven that does most of the work. This recipe is exactly that: uncomplicated, light yet comforting, and a perfect balance between creamy and crispy. The use of oat-based cream and oats ensures a rich texture without unnecessary heaviness, making it a great option if you want something satisfying without overloading on calories.

Ingredients:

  • 100 g oats

  • 1 whole Chinese cabbage

  • 1 pack of mushrooms

  • 1 pack of feta cheese

  • 2 small onions (or 3 large garlic cloves)

  • Cream (preferably oat cream for a lighter, vegan-friendly version)

  • Salt, pepper

  • A pinch of curry powder

You can easily find all these ingredients at our 24/7 BIOFLIX store around the corner. Quick, local, and always at hand!

Preparation:

  1. Get ready: Bring a pot of water to boil and preheat the oven to 150°C.

  2. Blanch the cabbage: Cut the Chinese cabbage in half, wash it thoroughly, and place it in the boiling water. Cover with a lid to preserve the vibrant green color.

  3. Chop the vegetables: Dice the onions (or garlic), cut the mushrooms into small pieces, and slice the feta cheese.

  4. Sauté: Fry the onions and mushrooms in a pan over medium heat until golden brown. Add the oats and season with two pinches of salt. The oats add a wonderful depth to the dish, giving it a creamy consistency without the need for extra fats.

  5. Cool the cabbage: Remove it from the boiling water and rinse it under cold water.

  6. Mix the sauce: Stir together the oat cream, pepper, and a pinch of curry powder. Trust me, the hint of curry elevates the flavor while keeping the dish light.

  7. Assemble the dish: Place the cabbage halves in a deep baking dish, spread the golden oat mixture on top, layer with feta slices, and pour the sauce over everything.

  8. Bake: Put it in the oven for 15 minutes, until everything melts together beautifully.

Ready to serve!

A dish as simple as a cozy evening with friends. Light yet fulfilling, effortless, and just what you need when hunger strikes. Enjoy!
